Field Trips
Clock Tower Images Inc. offers a series of one-day (and shorter) photography field trips. Field trips are great for really putting your camera to work. We scout the locations, provide the guides and offer personalized photography instruction along the way. Field trips are like personalized photography workshops with some great photographs along the way.
Full day trips usually require a certain amount of driving. You can drive yourself or car pool with our guide (no extra charge). You will need to bring your own lunch, but snacks and (non-alcoholic) drinks are provided.
Shorter field trips may require a small amount of driving and we generally meet at the field trip start location. Snacks will be available.
Our current schedule for field trips is listed below. To reserve a space, please click the Buy Now button below.
Our primary subjects are:
- birds (mostly in the spring)
- bears (only in the fall)
- macro: bugs, flowers and other small things (spring thru fall)
- nature walks (spring thru fall)
Every field trip is different but they are all reliably fun and educational. While we can’t control the weather and the wildlife, we will be sure to provide great photographic opportunities, expert advice on all things photography, and countless tall tales about the places we’ve been and the things we’ve photographed (note: when we talk of “shooting” things we refer specifically and exclusively to shooting with cameras!).
Birding field trips typically require about three hours. We have scouted many excellent locations around Victoria and within the Courtenay/Comox valley. In the Victoria area we often visit Swan Lake, Esquimalt Lagoon, Beacon Hill Park and Blenkinsop Lake. In the Courtenay area, Isobel’s property is a wonderful place for spring birding as she has several feeders and a purpose-built blind. See the schedule below or call us if you have a specific date you’d like to book.
Bear trips typically start in early September and continue through October. Each trip is a full day as we will travel to Vancouver Island’s west coast, often stopping at wildlife locations along the way. We are very respectful of the bears and our small groups avoid interfering with their fishing activities, yet we provide many great photo opportunities.
Macro adventures typically require about three hours. We will photograph flowers, bugs, beetles, butterflies and more. As always, we provide expert instruction and access to our professional gear. See the schedule below or call us if you have a specific date you’d like to book.
Nature walks are either half day or full day. We’ll guide you along some of Vancouver Island’s most beautiful shorelines, providing many opportunities for fantastic landscape photography. Bring your walking shoes, sunscreen and a wide-angle lens. Space and weight permitting, bring a longer telephoto to capture any wildlife opportunities.
