Kayaking in Kyuquot

In August of 2011 I worked with West Coast Expeditions to produce a short film showcasing the joy of kayaking in Kyuquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. I spent an amazing week at West Coast Expedition’s camp on Spring Island with a fantastic group of guests and staff. We had several days of glorious weather, saw dozens of sea otters, several humpback whales and hundreds of sea birds. Then we had one day of pounding rain; a deluge of water that threatened to flood the island, yet we were warm and dry and playing games much of the day. After a couple of typical misty west coast days I had an awesome flight out on Nootka Air.

Our goal with this adventure video was to focus on the spiritual nature of kayaking and I’m pleased with the final result. My thanks to the guests and staff at Spring Island and a special nod to James, who not only conjured some great meals, he was also a rocking wheelhouse on the backside of my double kayak.
